Skype for Business is excellent software for communication and collaboration. However, it is not always that easy to use. It has many functions but if you don’t know for sure, it can be pretty complicated to find them. How often do you read software products instructions? I think we all know the answer to that =). Let’s find out how Skype for Business works.
You open Skype for Business to discuss something with your colleagues, right? You talk to some of them constantly, and just every once in a while to the rest. Let’s start with the last group.
Where do I begin if I need to contact a colleague I haven’t spoken to in a while or maybe even never?
Here’s a Skype for Business window:
To contact someone you need to find them first.
You can see the words ‘Find contact’ in the search line in the top part of the window.
No sooner said than done: enter the email address or name of your colleague. For example, let’s find John:
Found him! To start a chat or make an audio or video call you just need to put your cursor on his image and the corresponding buttons appear:
Click and act!
We got in touch with him. As we have mentioned above, this was an isolated case - we hardly ever communicate with him.
Now, what do you do with contacts you communicate with on a daily basis? Search for them manually every time you open Skype for Business?! You can, but you shouldn’t! Instead…
Add a colleague to a group of contacts
Now let’s find out how to contact a colleague in EasyLy
The search line is in the middle of the bottom of the window in EasyLy. Start typing a colleague’s name.
Got him! Left click on the contact’s name and chat opens immediately:
With the help of buttons at the bottom of chat and those on the right side of the window we can:
- Call John,
- Send him a message template,
- Add another participant to an existing chat with John,
- Share our screen,
- Send an email,
- Find all incoming emails from John (EasyLy will automatically redirect you to Outlook so you can see them),
- Create a meeting with John,
- See his location in the office,
- See contact’s details.
